Laura Ramírez Palacio

(Medellín, Colombia, 1988- Madrid, España 2022). 

 

PhD candidate in Artistic, Literary and Cultural Studies at the Autonoma University of Madrid, Spain. Her doctoral research explored imageries of childhood generated out of solidary and propagandistic visual artifacts during the Cold War. She holded a B.A. in Fine Arts & History and Theory of Art from Los Andes University, Bogotá, Colombia and a Master degree in History of Contemporary Art and Visual Culture from the joint program imparted by the Reina Sofía Museum, Complutense University, and Autonoma University of Madrid, Spain.

 

She grew a broad experience on cultural events management (exhibitions, publications and conferences) after working as functionary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia. She worked as research assistant for academic research projects such as Intellectual Networks: Art and Politics in Latina America (sponsored by the Getty Foundation, United States). Currently, she participated in the research group DeVisiones. Discursos, genealogías y prácticas en la creación visual contemporánea at the Autonoma University of Madrid, Spain and Ré.Part – Partisan Resistance(s): Visual culture, collective imagination and revolutionary memory of the University Grenoble Alpes, France. Also, she was a member of the board of the association Red de Estudios Visuales Latinoamericanos (REVLAT).

 

She published essays, articles and reviews in academic publications and she

 participated in diverse international congresses. Her research feeds on her artistic production, which has been exhibited internationally. Her last solo exhibition during her life was Realidades (In)imaginables, in the Embassy of Colombia in Berlin, Germany (2016). Additionaly, she participated in the collective exhibitions Paper Ballad in La Cápsula, Zurich, Swiss (2018), En la mira II in Galería La Cometa, Bogotá, Colombia (2018) and Cuatro Nombres  in Galería La Cometa, Madrid, Spain (2020). Her artistic production was exhibited in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the PlusArtis space in Madrid during November and December of 2023.

She died in Madrid, España in April of 2022.
